TOP’s philosophy and commitment to the game of basketball is evident in our approach to coaching the coach and a return to teaching the fundamentals of the game. Our players are falling behind more every day as evidenced by the recent international dominance of our once proud sport. Because of this warped philosophy of giving a kid a jersey and throwing him/her on the court we now are witnessing this downward spiral in fundamentals. This philosophy is destroying the quality of our game.
Through TOP’s coaching clinics and TOP certification for coaches we will directly impact the game, ultimately giving the kids who play a better experience and chance to excel beyond their abilities.

Why coaches training and certification for The Orange Planet?
To be average is easy, to be special is most difficult! The 23-year dream of TOP's owner to produce a top teaching and training facility for basketball players only becomes a reality with coaches who are trained and dedicated to implement TOP's philosophy and teaching style. TOP's system is unique and commited to absolute excellence at all levels. Every basketball facililty in the area and most in the country will make the same statement, most are fooling themselves.
What TOP certification program represents
The owners complete commitment to have a staff of trained coaches that provide our clients the best quality of instruction for individuals, small groups and teams possible.
How our certification process is structured
A 12-hour course structured around classroom instruction, on floor instruction, learn by doing approach and final evaluation. Only serious applicants are allowed into the program. Ongoing skill development is part of our coaches becomeing great. The course is offered once a year in three four hour settings. The course is led by 40 years of NCAA coaching experience and track records recognized and respected nationally.
Five(5) coaches recently participated in our first training academy for TOP coaches. Over the three days/12 hour of on court instruction, 40 elements of the game were broken down into specific teaching points and application. It was very beneficial for our staff as we look forward to coaching our clients and giving them the best possible instruction.
Being a Volunteer Coach
Q: If I coach a league team at The Orange Planet, do I need to be certified?
A: No. We welcome any coach/parent/volunteer to coach their team during league play. Our certification program is designed to train and improve our coaching staff (and those looking to become a TOP Coach).
